What do you think about the new process? Will it result in the first UK win since 1997? Will it result in a credible placing for the UK?
Will a UK talent show result in a household name in the UK who will be a complete unknown in Europe? Will we follow the fortunes of Ireland 'You're a Star' or Spain's 'Operacion Triunfo'?
Is Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber the right man for the job?

Although this new selection process will (hopefully) provoke more interest from the public with a series of live shows, I think that the fact that a jury will now also have a say in the outcome of the Eurovision final may lead to a change in fortunes and not necessarily due to Lord ALW's involvement - Following the indifferent attitude of the previous years though this is a huge step in the right direction |
Anything is worth a try, but I still think a major star is needed to back Lord ALW up, otherwise we don't stand a chance. We have already tried an unknown in Europe and it hasn't worked. |
Be nice about the other Eurovision performers (you could even give them a bit of airtime). Sarcasm is entertaining but has clearly backfired in recent years. And try to make the Eurovision selection both an honour for all those selected and a thrill to (most of) those watching. If Eurovision is regarded as a joke, then good musicians will tend to regard it as a joke |
First I have heard that ALW is writing a song. I follow a lot of Russian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian music and think that it is far stronger than anything in the pop UK charts - need to look at what is happening in the voting countries. |
I hope professional singers/ household names take part and not "wannabees" |
I know that the BBC want a 'search ' type idea, rather like Joseph, but I do think ALW writing a couple of songs and 1 established singer would have been better |
I think 2009 will be the year that we finally break out of the bottom four. We're dreaming if we think we can win though. |
It seems the countries doing well send their young hip stars, and we've got a 60 year old songwriter.... on the other hand, he writes quality. If the BBC are willing to spend £ on Webber, why they can't spend money persuading Take That or Leona or another act with an international following to perform? Webber & Leona could be a great combination, with the right song. And why is only 1 song being written? Why not 4 and we choose the song and the singer(s)? |
Lord ALW is good when it comes to musicals, ESC is not a musical, maybe the BBC should listen to the UK ESC fans, and please, no Take That. |
Step in the right direction. I hope a great singer will be chosen. Not saying that a member of the 'general public' won't be good - Leona Lewis and others were found by this route. But if we're doing this properly we need a great singer, and a great song. The jury is back, maybe there will need to be an Orchestra too! |

NB - if Lord ALW writes only 1 song for the winner of 'YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU', then the UK can only be a Guest Jury in Second Chance 2009 - for the first time ever!
